Sri Lanka Overview

Whether you're looking for complete rest and relaxation, natural beauty and wildlife to explore or a healthy dose of entertainment and nightlife, the island of Sri Lanka really does have it all. This culturally diverse nation offers some incredible beaches - with some incredible surf too - deliciously humble Sri Lankan cuisine and a plethora of attractions and scenery to explore.

Sri Lanka's coastal capital, Colombo is arguably the most popular city for flights onto the island, which oozes colour and plenty of signs of its colonial past. With a great contrast between street markets and high-end dining, there's something for everyone in Colombo.

If water sports are more your bag, you can't go wrong with a trip to Kalutara, with crystal-clear beaches and excellent waves to ride, as well as breathtaking Buddhist temples and ancient fortifications to discover.

Some of the most popular all-inclusive holiday resorts in Sri Lanka are located in the city of Negombo. It's not hard to see why the resorts have settled here, with more incredible beaches, spectacular architecture and the Muthurajawela marshland that's teeming with wildlife. If great walks in the mountains are something you enjoy, a trip to the sacred city of Kandy should also be on your to-do list, set deep within the island's Hill Country. It's the perfect place to completely switch off and unwind amid the ancient temples and refreshing natural waterfalls.
